STUDENT HOUSING REMODEL - TORRE DEL NORTE
LOCATION:          Río Piedras, Puerto Rico
PROJECT AREA: 121,500 SF
PROJECT YEAR: 2020
DESCRIPTION:
Built in the early 1970s, this Torre Norte is a twenty-three-story, 121,500-square-foot dorm building at the University of Puerto Rico. The project comprises a complete remodeling that includes reconfiguring the layout into single rooms, studio and three-bedroom units. Renowned architect José Firpi, a Harvard alumnus and student of 20th-century master Walter Gropius, designed the modern tower. After more than fifty years of intense use, poor maintenance, and most recently hurricane damage, the building requires a complete overhaul. Our design will make Torre Norte a contemporary, safe, resilient, energy-efficient, and sustainable student residence.
